This is the oldest movie here. I made it in December 2000
& I just found it again.
Thanks to a 13 year old Anna for the singing.
The text was from a book of Haiku I took out
of the library then, hence the lack of attribution now.
If anyone knows, please mail me.

Mimi, Jack & Anna

'Mimi, Jack & Anna' 109MB 2:09 min

About half way through this, I realised I was
unconsciously structuring it with the work
of Jacques Rivette in mind. So it's a kind of
tiny tribute to a master.
The music is my arrangement for Tuba Quartet of the Pixies'
Is She Weird? played by Tubalaté on their Hall of Mirrors CD.
Thanks to them & thanks to Anna, Jack & Mimi.

Then

'Then' 32.3MB 2:18 min

The source movie is from the Library of Congress American Memory site
& was originally made at Edison's Black Maria studio in West Orange,
New Jersey, in 1897. The music is Verdi's Ah Che La Morte Ognora from
Il Trovatore sung by Antonio Vargas, probably in 1902. It was found on the
University of California, Santa Barbara's Cylinder Preservation and Digitisation Project.
Time spent at either of these sites is time not wasted...

'Response' 2.61MB 55 sec

Early this month I gave a talk to students on the
excellent Interactive Art & Design M.A at Falmouth.
Afterwards I saw some great work by those students.
One project, by Rebecca Gamble, was participatory.
The first movie is my response to that.
The second is constructed from images & texts
Rebecca then, in turn, sent me.
She also sent me some audio, which I hope to make
part of a final movie in this sequence.

A Chelm Story for Doron Golan

'A Chelm Story for Doron Golan' 50.3MB 1:05 min

With respect & affection.

A fellow's walking along the street when he bumps into a guy from Chelm.
He sees the guy is wearing one black shoe & one brown one, so he says to him:
'Whassup with you friend? - going around with one shoe black & the other brown.'
And the guy comes back - 'You may well laugh but, you know, I've got another
pair exactly like this back at home.'

Text from Uriel Weinreich's College Yiddish.

In the Spring of 2003 I started making tiny QuickTime movies, as a kind of moving image dream diary.
This quickly became a major focus of my work & I have made at least two or three every month since.
In 2006 I arranged them in their current, semi-chronological, format (everything from April 2003 - Dec 2005 appears in the first four months of 2006).

All the movies, new & old, still live in the same folder & can be accessed from there too.
You may freely download & remix any of them, though I would appreciate a credit.
Where credits are due to others for material I have appropriated or remixed, or for performances, I will include a note with the posts here.
All music, except where otherwise stated, is by me.

I hope you like the movies, though of course I will continue to make & post them whether you do or not (but my thanks for looking!).
If you're interested enough you can read more about them here, here, here & here.
