'five operas'

a call to writers...

You are invited to submit one or more libretti for this forthcoming net based project by the composer and new media artist Michael Szpakowski. Five pieces will be selected from these submissions for setting and inclusion in the project, which will go online in June 2003.

Each libretto must be exactly one hundred words long, excluding the names of characters & stage directions.The payment for each selected libretto will be $1 a word (excluding stage directions and character names)

All submissions (selected or otherwise) will be displayed here for the forseeable future as part of the project and it is a condition of entry that you agree to this.

Each libretto may be written for as many characters as you wish. It must feature a part for chorus, which will be sung by a class of 9-10 year old children. This should be borne in mind when deciding on content.

Please stick to this format in submitting your piece(s) in the body of a plain text e mail, with "libretto" as the subject line.

In the almost inconceivable event of this project making any money, any surplus will be divided thusly: each selected librettist 10%, Michael 50%.

The closing date is Monday January 6th 2003. Submissions will be posted irregularly up to that time.
Please only contact us if your work does not appear by January 8th.

Although submissions must be in English, we will be very happy to see work written in non standard dialects, or by speakers of English as a second language.
We also actively encourage first time writers of any age to submit.
